Modeling Coastal Water Clarity Using Landsat‐8 and Sentinel‐2

چکیده
Understanding and attributing changes to water quality is essential the study management of coastal ecosystems ecological functions they sustain (e.g., primary productivity, predation, submerged aquatic vegetation growth). However, describing patterns clarity—a key aspect quality—over meaningful scales in space time challenged by high spatial temporal variability due natural anthropogenic processes. Regionally tuned satellite algorithms can provide a more complete understanding clarity drivers. In this study, we used open-access data low-cost situ methods improve estimates an optically complex body. Specifically, created remote sensing product compiling Landsat-8 Sentinel-2 reflectance with long-term Secchi depth measurements at 12 sites over 8 years shallow turbid lagoon system Virginia, USA. Our satellite-based model explained ∼33% variation clarity. approach increases spatiotemporal coverage improves from bio-optical that overpredicted This could lead better drivers predict how will change future.

Sverdrup critical depth and the role of water clarity in Norwegian Coastal Water
The critical depth concept was first recognized by Gran and Braarud (1935). During summer, in the Bay of Fundy, they observed an unexpected no bloom situation. Their interpretation was that high amounts of detritus of terrestrial origin caused too murky water and insufficient light for the tidallymixedphytoplankton. Almost 20 years later, thiswas elaboratedby Sverdrup (1953) into ahypothesis fo...
متن کاملHydrodynamics and water quality assessment of a coastal lagoon using environmental fluid dynamics code explorer modeling system
Ciénaga de Mallorquín is a coastal lagoon designated as a RAMSAR site due to its ecological regional and international importance. In this work, the environmental fluid dynamics code explorer modeling system was implemented to determine the spatio-temporal distribution of temperature, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand and nutrient levels, and assess the trophic status of Ciénaga de Mallo...
متن کاملNutrient, chlorophyll, and water clarity relationships in Florida’s nearshore coastal waters with comparisons to freshwater lakes
Models relating chlorophyll to nutrients and Secchi depth to chlorophyll using data from nearshore coastal waters of Florida were successfully developed. The models suggest that phosphorus is the primary limiting factor for phytoplankton in the nearshore coastal waters of Florida and that total phosphorus concentration accounts for 81% of the variance in chlorophyll concentration. The models al...

today, scouring is one of the important topics in the river and coastal engineering so that the most destruction in the bridges is occurred due to this phenomenon. whereas the bridges are assumed as the most important connecting structures in the communications roads in the country and their importance is doubled while floodwater, thus exact design and maintenance thereof is very crucial. f...
Regional assessment of lake water clarity using satellite remote sensing
Lake water clarity as measured by Secchi disk transparency (SDT) is a cost-effective measure of water quality. However, in regions where there are thousands of lakes, sampling even a small proportion of those lakes for SDT year after year is cost prohibitive. Remote sensing has the potential to be a powerful tool for assessing lake clarity over large spatial scales. The overall objective of our...
